It's just not super helpful. On occasion, one must use it. Perhaps it's better to think first. How bad would a fall be right now? Would it help my child actually be more careful next time? What else could I say? "Step away from others with that bat" is certainly more decisive and informative...
I say "be careful" a lot too, but it's not a great habit.
It's not JUST as bad, though, because it's a warning about a specific situation (presumably), not a criterion for making all choices!!
Ironically, having attempted to demonstrate monkey bars earlier this week, I can safely say that my ego did not make a “safe choice”…
