This is wildly sensible!! We have a 30 year old set that works great, but that will not come with us when we buy a house, for several reasons. I've been dreading having to buy a new washer!

We had to buy a new washing machine last year. I bought a GE top loader and it has a soak cycle! It was in the range of $600-$700 if I remember correctly, so not cheap by my standards but I am glad to have the soak cycle. I see that the price has increased to $799 but I see a link on the home depot site for another GE that also has a soak option that is $558 right now.

It's definitely not cheap, nor approved by the energy-saving industrial complex, but if you're looking for a new machine and can possibly swing it, I highly recommend getting a Speed Queen. They are like washing machines used to be, complete with real soak cycle! I'm so grateful to the previous owner of my home, a lovely, prudent housewife who got the one I use now. (It was even made in America!)

Haha! This made me laugh out loud. I have two washers a really old top-loader in the basement and a front loader upstairs. The old one is so much better!!! I can fill it up and leave the lip open and soak as long as I like. Brilliant.

So far my favorite content on SFH is laundry and marriage, in that order 🙂
