Summer is so wonderful (in my opinion, and today being a quintessentially bright, breezy New England day, unlike the unbearable weeks before). In this season, we are even more prone to “thank God it’s Friday,” looking forward to the weekend and its relaxations. Or for us DIYers, the projects! (My garden is a literal jungle.)
Just remember, though: Friday is a good day to be sure to have what you need from the grocery store, having made your menus at least through to Monday, so you don’t have to shop on Sunday as well as prepare a more genial, unrushed dinner. We really need to try our utmost not to leave chores until Sunday.
Friday is the day to get a jump on the laundry and have a thought for what everyone will wear to church.
I hate to be the bearer of terrible news, but your little rascals’ same cotton dresses and collared shirts that have been doing duty all summer will have a new lease on life if you… <ducks> …iron them! It doesn’t take too long and can be the difference between feeling in control and… not.
In general, being prepared for Sunday with its worship, rest, and celebration orients our week and, indeed, our life.
As with everything here at the SFH, the best thing is for you to take my ideas, which come from my experience of escaping feminism to enjoy the gift of 45 years of marriage, seven children, and more than a score of grandchildren, and apply them to your situation with discernment, prudence, and confidence — and a sense of humor!
