Designating one side of the kitchen sink for the dirty things implies an important condition: just before serving a meal, clean the counter off so things can be put there and clean out the sink so things can be put there.
Start meal prep 10 minutes before you think you probably have to so you have 10 minutes to clear things away/out. Or send someone to prep things for you! (Where are they… )
Bonus: Train everyone to place the utensils separately if for some reason things aren’t going straight into the dishwasher.
You would be astonished how much easier it is for whoever is cleaning up to address a stack of plates and then the utensils in their turn vs. plates scattered all over and perched on each other with their forks and knives all interspersed.
Remember, all these strategies can be delegated (eventually) and all can be learned by everyone!
