The Blitz is the quick cleanup that gives the appearance of clean without actually cleaning (that would be the Sparkle and Shine, AKA Moderately Clean).
It’s actually a bit complicated. I wrote a long post about it here. The Blitz addresses the near-futility of trying to keep the house orderly when you have kids!
This is the essence:
Everyone has to be all-in on just quickly straightening up the few most-used rooms at least sometime in the late afternoon, possibly also sometime in the morning or just before lunch.
You can bribe (dangle a snack, show, outing, chapter of the current read-aloud, or whatever works), threaten (a sense of danger is necessary in any case or nothing will get done), and/or play loud music. A timer set to 10 minutes keeps everyone honest.
Tidy from the corners (and under the furniture) in towards the middle. Dedicate one person as the “runner” — he will put things in remote spots on command but doesn’t have to vacuum.
Beware the “pseudo-blitz” in which all the detritus of daily life gets shoved from the center into the corners!
Give those things that need a wipe, a wipe.
Train the children to do it in your absence.
The Blitz gives your husband something like order to come home to (or emerge from whatever work he’s doing), which is nice for him, and tides you over to another day.
