Monday Ducks
Let's get them in a row
The School for Housewives brings you short, practical, and thoughtful messages to inspire you to shake off feminism and make your home. If you’re new here, go to the homepage for the previous Lessons; the categories are arranged in the menu bar at the top.
Monday has a lot of pressure on it (unless you’re homebound in a blizzard!). Write down all the things, assign the less urgent matters to other days and/or handy children, and check on your menu plan.
Having dinner sorted for the coming week is the difference between feeling overwhelmed by it all and feeling like the captain of your ship.
Monday’s supper in particular should probably be something fairly low-effort. I always found the example of Ma to be so helpful: make it something easy.
A pot of soup or any quick meal takes the pressure off. Easily assembled leftovers from a previous meal; a pasta-with-meat-sauce, bread, and salad sort of menu; or a crockpot favorite served over yesterday’s rice or potatoes is what we’re looking for here.

I’m somewhat of a newbie to your posts, but I’m gleaning so much. It might be timing, because the thought of planning my meals ahead of time used to give me anxiety. Now I’ve been executing this simple (but profound!) plan for about a month and it’s amazing how much room I have in my refrigerator (from actually USING the things I buy) and how much my cooking has been elevated by your tips. My husband keeps raving about the meals! Even the WAY you give tips - keeping it real and not TOO detailed - is motivating because it’s doable. A lot like starting the homeschooling journey. Some things you just have to learn for yourself and what works for your family. So thank you!
I am headed to pick up my frozen lasagna from Walmart. 11 wks pregnant and Mondaying, I was feeling a little guilty for the dinner choice until I opened the article--Thank you!!
