As soon as the beds are made, after breakfast, I turn on the fans. It definitely has helped to prevent mold. It's also a nice quiet sound that helps create a peaceful atmosphere in the home. Hope you are feeling better soon!
The first day of fall (not literally, but the day you *feel* the fall coming), my mom would turn on the attic fan and make Brunswick stew. There was football on the TV. It is probably my most nostalgic ritual and she does not recall doing this habitually at all. It was as exciting of a day for me as Christmas (and somewhat unexpected as you never knew the exact day)
Oh! That wonderful memory reminds me of an Egyptian custom, called “shim el neseem” which means, “smell the breezes.” It’s that on the first fresh day of spring, you go on a sort of celebratory picnic, and you didn’t know the exact day of it. We really can’t do that here in New England, because the air will have that glorious freshness but the ground will be very muddy! But I still love the concept!
I love this idea. How long-ish do you keep the windows open? Just while you’re making up the beds, or a little longer? I find I usually forget I’ve opened a window and find it many hours later. But if it was a daily habit I’m sure I would get better at it 🤣.
(I also imagine this daily habit would “insure” I keep my window sashes and ledges much cleaner!!)
Well, I don’t have AC! So many of my windows are always open in late spring, summer, and early fall. If it’s hot out, then we close at least south-facing windows during the day, but open at night.
If it’s cold out, I just open while I’m making beds or cleaning, or at least try to. I used to resist because I get so cold and heat is so expensive, but I have noticed that if you open that sunny window even on a very cold day, somehow the room doesn’t get cooler — it just gets fresher! But if you leave it open too long, because you forget, then yes, you’re kissing your dollars goodbye LOL
